Activities

Issues dealt with by the caucus
• Women’s political Empowerment (e.g. draft law №1456 was prepared in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the election process)
• Involvement of women to peace and security sectors (e.g. cancellation of restrictions for women to hold 63 military positions is the result of cooperation with the Ministry of Defence;

-moreover, the draft law №6109 on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men during military service was adopted in the first reading, the draft law №6171 on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the field of military security and defence was prepared).

• Ensuring gender-sensitiveness of the Parliament (e.g. gender analysis of draft laws has been introduced; amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine” №7283 and №7284 were prepared ensuring adherence to parliamentary ethics, equal representation of women and men in the committees and within the parliamentary leadership;

• Strengthening women’s economic empowerment

• Advocating the adoption of the Istanbul convention (e.g. strengthening mechanisms and instruments on combating violence and changing the work with victims and offenders (№5294, №4952), draft laws №6243 strengthening the punishment for offenders, №5435 on missing persons were adopted, and draft law №6353 on human rights and non-discrimination was prepared for consideration by the Parliament

• Implementation of the gender Education (e.g. amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Education” to determine key competencies, such as “the ability to realize equal rights and opportunities”, providing assistance in the development and adoption of the Gender Education Strategy at the level of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, aimed at counteracting bias in the education system and ensuring the gender competence of graduates.)

• Promoting the fulfillment of the CEDAW recommendations
