Reserved seats and quotas

There are reserved seats in parliament for certain groups Reserved seats are a means to ensure the parliamentary representation of certain groups in society.

Article 11 of the Constitution says that the State shall take the necessary measures to ensure the appropriate representation of women in the House of Representatives, as specified by Law.
Provisions were previously outlined in the 2015 Elections Law, but in 2019, amendments were made to the Constitution noting that one-fourth of all seats in the lower house are reserved for women (Article 102(1).
