If the Senate does not agree with a piece of legislation, it is sent back to the lower house with a motion that contains a recommendation. The lower house usually considers the recommendation and votes on it, usually in the affirmative. The bill with the agreed change is then sent back to the Senate and is usually passed.

The except is money bills. If the Senate does not pass the bill within one month of receiving it from the House, unless the House otherwise resolves, it is presented to the Governor-General for assent.
