Note on the Distribution of seats according to sex
- Indirect elections to renew one third of the 233 elective seats in the Council of States are held every two years on various dates. A total of 76 seats are up for renewal in 2020. The renewal was due to start on 26 March but was delayed to 19 June due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- A total of 65 members had been elected by 5 October 2020, of whom eight were women. The date of election to renew the 11 remaining seats, whose terms are due to expire in November, is yet to be announced by the election commission.
- As at 5 October, there were 25 women among 243 members. This total includes 11 retiring members and one male member appointed in 2020.
