The Council of the Nation comprises a total of 144 members: 96 indirectly elected members and 48 members appointed by the President of the Republic.
Indirect elections to renew 48 of the 96 indirectly elected seats were held on 29 December 2018. One woman was elected. The new Council of the Nation comprised a total of 9 women out of 123 members at the moment of the first session held on 29 January 2019.
On 7 June 2020, the President appointed 15 members, including one woman. As at 14 July 2020, there were a total of 141 members, of whom 8 were women.
