Note on the number of seats at stake:

Senators serve a six-year term. About half of them are renewed every three years using two “series”:

- Series 1 (170 seats, renewed in 2023)

- Series 2 (178 seats*, last renewed in 2020)

*The 2020 elections were held to renew 172 of the 178 seats in accordance with Law no. 2020-976 of 3 August 2020, which stipulated that the six senators representing French citizens abroad would be renewed in September 2021.
