President Azali Assoumani’s Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros (CRC) won 31 seats in the 33-member Assembly of the Union (the statutory number increased from 24, see note). The President’s son, Mr. Nour-El-Fatah Azali, was also elected. The main opposition party, Juwa, boycotted the elections, claiming a lack of transparency in the electoral process. On 4 April 2025, the newly elected Assembly of the Union held its first session and re-elected Mr. Abdou Moustadroine (CRC) as its Speaker.
Note:
In February 2023, the Assembly of the Union adopted a law increasing the statutory number of members from 24 to 33 (as had been the case before the 2020 elections). -
