About the election

The Monegasque National Union - l’Union, which was formed by all parties that contested the 2018 elections, won all seats in the 24-member National Council. The list, led by Speaker Brigitte Boccone-Pagès (see note), swept 89.6% of the votes. All parties in the list oppose the country’s integration into the European Union and support the monarchy. The party New Ideas for Monaco, led by Mr. Daniel Boéri (an outgoing member of the National Council), focused on women's rights and ecological issues during election campaigning. The 2023 elections saw a lower turnout: 57.26% of 7,594 eligible voters, down from 70.35% in 2018. On 16 February, the newly elected National Council held its first session and re-elected Ms. Boccone-Pagès as its Speaker.

Note:

She succeeded Mr. Stéphane Valeri as the Speaker in October 2022, thereby becoming the first woman in Monaco to assume the post.
