Indirect elections to the new 200-member Senate in 2024* were held at three levels: district (9 June), provincial (16 June) and national (26 June).
At the national level, 10 senators from each of the 20 eligible groups** were elected from among 3,080 candidates (40 candidates from each of 77 provinces, who had been selected from 55,680 candidates from 928 districts).
*It succeeds the 250-member Senate, which had been appointed in 2019 in accordance with Section 269 of the 2017 Constitution.
**They include law and justice, education, public health, agriculture, science and technology, mass communication, employees or workers, business owners, tourism-related professions, industrialists, artists or athletes, independent professionals, women, and elderly, disabled or ethnic groups.
