Notes: 1990: The Supreme Soviet of the SSR of Tajikistan became the first legislature of Tajikistan after the country became independent on 9 September 1991; Tajikistan women had previously been elected to the Soviet Supreme of the SSR of Tajikistan and to the USSR Parliament; the independent country's first general elections took place in February 1995 when 5 women were elected out of 181 members
