- 194 senators selected by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) among 400 names nominated by the Senator Selection Committee;
- 50 senators selected by the NCPO among 200 candidates representing various occupational groups who had been chosen by their peers and selected by the Election Commission;
- 6 ex-officio members: the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, the Supreme Commander, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force and the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police.
